A Vila Flor couple caught stealing a car a week ago have been detained after authorities found signs of other crimes, GNR said today.
A man and a woman, aged 42 and 38, are currently suspected of aggravated theft, drug dealing and possession of illegal weapons following an investigation initiated by the first episode, according to a statement from the Bragança Territorial Command.
The two were arrested on February 21 for stealing a car, and a few days later they were searched, during which drugs, ammunition and parts of a car stolen by the suspects were found.
According to the GNR, during a search of the house, an annex and a car belonging to the suspects, 62 doses of heroin, 28 doses of cocaine, 17 cartridges, 5 cartridges of zahalot and a car were seized.
The searches were carried out as part of an investigation into the theft of a car that was found and delivered to the owner on 21 February, after the GNR was made aware that the car had been abandoned on the side of the A4 motorway.
At the same time, the military found the couple walking on the highway.
The two were initially prosecuted for car theft and the facts were sent to the Vila Flor court where they were heard after the searches and ordered to keep them in custody.
