Rescuers from the Rostov region took part in extinguishing a fire that broke out in the Turkish port of Iskederun after the earthquake, involving an amphibious aircraft, the regional government press service reported on February 28.
After the earthquake that occurred in Turkey on February 6, tanks caught fire in a warehouse in the port of Iskederun, part of the docks collapsed. It took almost two days to extinguish the flames. The Be-200 amphibious aircraft of the Southern Aviation Rescue Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation came to the rescue.
“There was little difficulty in completing the task, as there was a heavy sea and it was not possible to take water directly near the fire. Therefore, I had to fly to the mountains, take water from the lake and return ”, – said the commander of the aviation link Vladimir Shabalov (Rostov-on-Don).
In total, more than 60 hurdles were completed. The plane dumped some 700 tons of water on the flames. The fire was extinguished in three days.
