The defeat of Arkhangelsk “Vodnik” from Ulyanovsk “Volga” ended the match in the final round of the round-robin tournament of the 31st Russian bandy championship of the 2022/2023 season. The game took place on February 28 at the Arkhangelsk Trud Stadium.
In the tournament plan, the game with Volga did not matter for Vodnik – the Arkhangelsk team retained the right to enter the playoffs from third place in any result. Therefore, the hosts’ coaching staff decided to play against the Arkhangelsk youth, in fact, building a second team against the Ulyanovsk team.
However, Vodnik started the first half with energy: in the 56th second, Ilya Nasekin opened the scoring from the penalty spot, and in the 16th minute he broke into the operational space one on one with the Volga goalkeeper Dmitry Atamanyuk Roman Ananin. . The Ulyanovsk team called a timeout, and three minutes later, Vladislav Kuznetsov deftly tamed a flying ball into the hosts’ penalty area – 2:1.
In the 23rd minute, the first goal in the Super League was scored by Alexander Kisel from Arkhangelsk, who overtook the defender and the goalkeeper in speed. And in the 35th minute, Sergei Shebonkin built a corner rebound – 3:2. “Volga” could already equalize at half-time, but in the 40th minute, Evgeny Volguzhev, taking a penalty, hit the hosts’ goalkeeper Vladislav Kryltsov directly.
At the 59th minute, the Ulyanovsk team restored the balance – Kirill Korolyov walked along the edge with lightning speed. But in the 74th minute, Volguzhev, having made a long diagonal shot, scored the winning goal – 3:4. For the rest of the match, the youngsters from Vodnik tried to regain the lost lead, but luck remained on the side of the Ulyanovsk team.
Vodnik (Arkhangelsk) – Volga (Ulyanovsk) 3:4 (3:2)
Goals Scored (minutes): Ilya Nasekin (1), Roman Ananin (16), Alexander Kisel (23) – Vladislav Kuznetsov (20), Sergey Shebonkin (35), Kirill Korolev (59), Evgeny Volguzhev (74).
The away victory of “Volga” allowed the Ulyanovsk team to bypass the Irkutsk “Baikal_Energy” and enter the second stage of the competition from sixth place. Now today’s opponents will meet again in the playoff series. The ¼ final games will take place up to two victories: on March 3 in Ulyanovsk, and also on March 6 and, if necessary, on March 7 in Arkhangelsk.
