The decision to ban the use of the TikTok social network on all devices used by government officials was made by the Canadian government on February 27, CTV reports.
“Starting February 28, the TikTok app will be automatically removed and blocked for use on all mobile devices used by the government.”– it is said in the instructions sent to the top officials, who were at the disposal of the TV channel.
The decision is explained by the fact that the app collects data in a way that can make the device vulnerable to cyber attacks. The social network reported that the government did not contact them regarding the security of the application and expressed its willingness to such contacts.
The government clarified that although the vulnerability was discovered, they had no facts to indicate the compromise of important information.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said blocking the app on government phones could encourage other citizens of the country to follow suit.
It should be noted that the Privacy Commissioner of Canada intends to conduct a peer study on the security of the app.
Recall that the ban on the use of the TikTok social network on devices used by the government was introduced in the United States at the end of 2022.
