The Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev won a resounding victory over the Spanish Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina on March 1 in the second round match of the ATP-500 hard tournament in Dubai (UAE).
The sixth racket in the world Rublev lost the first set with a score of 1:6. In the tie-break of the second game, Rublev won five match points against Davidovich-Fokina (29th in the ATP ranking) and won the game with a score of 7:6 (8:6). The third game also ended with a tiebreaker, which Rublev confidently won – 7: 6 (7: 3). The match lasted 2 hours and 25 minutes.
During the match, Rublev hit 12 aces, erred twice on second serve and failed to win a single game on the Spaniard’s serve (two break points in total). On Davidovich-Fokina’s account: eight straight tackles, three double faults and two break points earned from four wins.
To reach the semifinals, Rublev will compete with the Dutchman Botik van de Zandshulp. The Dubai ATP 500 tournament takes place on open hard courts from February 27 to March 4. The competition’s prize fund exceeds $2.8 million.
