The parents of a 16-year-old girl have been convicted in Wales for allowing the girl to become morbidly obese and live in “unsuitable conditions” during a period of mandatory detention due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 45-year-old man was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison. A woman who confessed to manslaughter was sentenced to six years in prison.
According to sky newspolice said the conditions in which they found the girl were “disgusting”, indicating “shocking neglect over an extended period of time, both environmental and physical”.
The girl suffered from spina bifida, a disease due to which she could not walk, so at school she moved in a wheelchair and played sports.
The prosecutor’s office said in court that the girl was found dead in her room in October 2020 in “unsuitable conditions even for animals.” The floor was reportedly covered in urine and the bed was covered in maggots.
