The Rosprirodnadzor North-Western Interregional Directorate, the department’s press service, is preparing materials for coordination with the prosecutor’s office of an unscheduled inspection of Monita LLC on the fact of ignition of waste at a landfill in the Gatchinsky district from the Leningrad region. reports on March 2 on the official Internet portal.
Materials are being prepared after a fire at the Vyritsky solid waste landfill. This is not an active landfill that requires reclamation. On March 2, 2023, state inspectors went to the site and found that the waste continues to burn and there is a burning smell near the landfill.
Rospotrebnadzor sees the risks of causing harm to the life and health of citizens in the actions of Monita LLC. Previously, the management suggested that the company management take measures to prevent waste fires.
Until 2019, the tenant of the land was Ecomonitoring LLC, which, by court decision, had to develop a landfill recovery project. The rights and obligations under the land lease were then transferred to Monita LLC.
The owner of the site is the administration of the Gatchinsky district of the Leningrad region. Since the owner did not take effective measures to compel Monita LLC to develop a project and carry out the reclamation of the landfill, a warning was issued to the administration on the need to take measures to comply with the requirements of environmental legislation in the landfill territory and the need to recultivate an inactive landfill.
