A delegation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headed by its president Thomas Bach arrived in Cuba, the Cuban News Agency (ACN) reported on March 2.
For two days, the delegation will discuss sports on the island with representatives of the Cuban sports movement ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and 2028 in Los Angeles. In addition, the guests will inaugurate sports facilities: a basketball court in the Sports City and an ice rink in the Pan-American Stadium.
From the Cuban leadership, the guests were received by the Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba, Jorge Luis Perdomo, the president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation of Cuba, Osvaldo Vento, and the head of the Cuban Olympic Committee (COC), Roberto Leon Richards.
The delegation was also received by the two-time Olympic volleyball champion and member of the IOC Athletes Commission Humilka Ruiz, and the Olympic gold medalist in javelin throw María Caridad Colón, as well as the four-time Olympic winner in Greco-Roman wrestling. Michael Lopez. nunez.
