A fire that broke out this Saturday at 3:26 p.m. at the Caxias prison hospital in Oeiras left nine people slightly injured and 25 prisoners were treated on the spot. Five prison guards, two nurses, a prison hospital paramedic and a firefighter were taken to the Amadora Sintra hospital for oxygen.
According to the DGRSP, a psychiatric patient hospitalized on the fourth floor of the prison hospital set fire to the mattress and bed linen in the room where he was staying, the fire was extinguished, and smoke removal is currently underway.
ABOUT cm As it became known from a source in civil protection, the evacuation of the 4th and 5th floors of the building has already been ordered. There is a possibility, which has not yet been officially confirmed, that a prison guard was injured.
56 operators and 27 firefighters, PSP and INEM vehicles were on site. One of the corporations present was Dafundo.
Rescuers on site found it difficult to get at least 20 prisoners out of the prison due to the ongoing fire.
The fire started at 15:26 and was declared extinguished at 15:50.
