On March 5, the press service of the Corporación de Aviación Civil de Cuba SA announced on its Twitter page that there were no casualties during an emergency landing at the Havana airport.
“Southwest Flight 3923, Havana-Fort Lauderdale, which had an engine problem when taking off this Sunday afternoon, was able to return to the José Martí airport. All passengers and crew members were evacuated. Great pilots! – says the message.
The Prensa Latina agency added, citing information from social networks, that the passengers are in good condition.
The airline said that the causes of this incident are under investigation.
Earlier, on social media, people who were at the airport at the time of the incident began posting messages. They wrote that the plane landed a few minutes after takeoff, after which the firefighters began to cool its board. They also reported explosion-like sounds as the plane took off.
Let us remember that under the sanctions, the tourism sector is very important for the Cuban economy. Following the 2019 coronavirus outbreak and subsequent border closures, many airlines have reduced their operations on the island. After 2022, the number of flights to Cuba will increase, as will the airlines that provide them.
