The President of the Republic this Sunday hailed the “historic agreement” reached at the United Nations on the protection of the high seas, deeming it “fundamental for the entire international community and for Portugal” which has “taken a leading position” in ocean conservation.
A note published on the website of the President of the Republic says that Marcelo Rebelo de Souza “congratulates himself on reaching a historic agreement” reached “after ten years of difficult negotiations.”
“This is of fundamental importance for the entire international community and for Portugal, which has taken a strong and leading position in preserving the ocean, investing in its knowledge and in the sustainable development of the blue economy,” says the President of the Republic.
