53.1% of the total population of the Republic of Buryatia at the beginning of 2022 were women, as of March 6, Buryatstat reported on the eve of International Women’s Day on March 8.
The ministry clarified that the number of women at the beginning of 2022 exceeded that of men by 60.3 thousand people and amounted to just over 519 thousand people.
Thus, for every 1,000 women, there were only 884 men. At the same time, there is an interesting dynamic in the ratio of the number of male and female population of the republic. If for children under 16 this ratio is 1,000 women for every 1,052 men, then there were only 884 men of working age for every 1,000 women, and 412 retired men for every 1,000 women of retirement age.
The average age of women in the republic was 38.7 years and of men 33.8 years. Life expectancy for women in the republic in 2021 reached 73.8 years, and for men – only 64.1 years, that is, below the retirement age.
Buryatstat reports that girls in the republic are always born less than boys. So, in 2021, there were 1,060 boys for every 1,000 girls born. The predominance of the number of women over that of men begins from the age of 29.
