Normalizing relations with the Israelis in Palestine is the last thing on Libyans’ minds, Libyan Grand Mufti Sheikh Sadiq El-Ghariani said on March 5, according to Libyan channel The Libya Observer.
According to the mufti, the visit of the Minister of Labor of the Interim Government of National Unity of Libya, Ali al-Abed, to the West Bank is a personal initiative of his, which is in conflict with the wishes of the Libyan people.
“The visit of the Libyan delegation is alien to the Libyan people… the normalization of relations with the Israelis in Palestine is the last thing on Libya’s mind”El-Gariani said.
According to El-Gariani, the visit of the Minister of Labor of the Libyan Interim Government of National Unity was agreed with the Israeli authorities as a result of negotiations with them. Since without this agreement, the Libyan minister could not reach the West Bank from Jordan.
“This proves the agreement and relevant communication with the Zionists and confirms that it was they who gave the entry permit to the Ministry of Labor”El-Gariani said.
Let us remember, according to the Libyan Supreme Council of State, the visit of an official delegation to the occupied territories was a field test and a prelude to other stages of interaction with the Israeli entity. All Libyan political institutions and social structures are obliged to take a firm stance against such “shameful” behavior.
