The PSP arrested two brothers at the crime scene for the crime of domestic violence against their mother, 71, in Ponta Delgada, Azores, police announced this Monday.
The PSP statement states that “after receiving a complaint about an episode of violence in the home of the victim, the police immediately went to the scene, noticing the victim in a state of nervousness and crying, reporting that, a few minutes before, her own children had made death threats, causing her fear and anxiety.
These police forces claim that “after intervening, in an attempt to calm the agitated spirit of the suspects, even in the presence of this police force, they continued to aggressively and viciously threaten their mother.”
According to the PSP, they were “immediately detained for the protection of the victim due to their advanced age and physical and psychological weakness, as well as the danger of continuing criminal activities against the victim.”
A measure of restraint was applied to the older defendant, and coercive measures were applied to the younger brother in the form of periodic visits to the police department, prohibition of contact with his mother and sister, not approaching less than 200 meters from the residence and, as a result, leaving the victim’s place of residence, as well as referral for treatment from drug addiction.
