The Slovak Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case due to the excessively high mortality from coronavirus in the country, the department’s press service reported on March 6.
The case was opened after an audit of the health system during a pandemic that claimed the lives of more than 21,000 Slovaks.
The prosecution suspects that the department specially created to combat the coronavirus improperly performed its functions.
It should be noted that so far no charges have been filed against specific individuals. The department also refused to disclose details of the case, so as not to jeopardize investigative efforts.
Recall that on March 2, the Minister of Health of Slovakia, Vladimir Lengvarsky, resigned. The minister resigned from his post due to the protracted health crisis and prolonged protests by medical workers due to low wages.
