Almost half a million tourists visited Cuba in two months of 2023. This was reported on March 6 by Cubadebate.
It is reported that the flow of tourists to Cuba from Canada at the end of the new year reached 80% of the figures for 2019. This year, more than 250,000 travelers from this North American country managed to visit the island.
Due to the non-resumption of long-distance flights from the old continent, the flow of visitors from Europe remains low.
The author of the article, José Luis Perelló, reports that more than 20.5 thousand people arrived on the island from Russia, more than 13 thousand people came from the United Kingdom and a little less from Germany. More than 13.1 thousand people visited Cuba from France, more than 11.3 thousand from Italy and more than 10.6 thousand people from Spain.
According to the journalist, in two months of the year only 12.1 thousand people arrived on the island by sea, of which 3.7 thousand people were crew members. Such low figures are due to restrictions imposed by the United States, which is the main exporter of cruise ships and yachts in the entire Caribbean.
Let us remember that tourism is an important component for the Cuban economy, even as a source of foreign currency. After the start of the spread of the coronavirus in 2019 and the subsequent closure of borders, the tourism market in Cuba plummeted sharply.
