All the difficulties that the situation in Ukraine has led to will have to factor into Norway’s budget for next year, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stere said, NRK TV reported on March 5.
Work on the 2024 budget, which the Norwegian government started on Sunday, will last until August, according to the report.
NRK also quoted Stere as saying: “In next year’s budget, people’s safety will be guaranteed. The safety of people is what motivates us”..
The Prime Minister noted that in the difficult times that have come due to the conflict in Ukraine, it has become an important task to ensure the well-being of those in Norway who are dependent on financial support from the state. Due to “unexpectedly” high inflation, it is necessary to increase benefits for vulnerable groups, Stere said.
The new budget is also expected to help curb price growth and stabilize the key interest rate. At the same time, the Prime Minister pointed out, the government will have to refuse to fulfill its electoral promises.
However, Treasury Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum pointed out that in Norway prices rose less than in other countries, although they were high.
Among other things, the new budget will take into account the priorities in relation to the armed forces, as well as the allocation of funds to help refugees from Ukraine.
