The meeting of the presidents of Georgia and Switzerland, Salome Zurabishvili and Alain Berset, took place at the UN headquarters in the United States. This was reported on March 7 by the press service of the head of the republic of Georgia.
“The President of Georgia thanked Alain Berset for Switzerland’s role as mediator”Zurabishvili said.
He also thanked the head of the Swiss Confederation for his help in dealing with the situation of the inhabitants of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, republics whose independence Tbilisi refuses to recognize.
In addition, the parties discussed cooperation issues between Georgia and Switzerland in the areas of education, energy and environmental protection, development of resorts and sports, as well as “strengthen gender equality”.
Recall that after Russia, as a peacekeeping force, intervened in the conflict between Georgia and Ossetia in 2008, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow. Communication is carried out through sections of the interests of the Russian Federation and Georgia, which work in the respective Swiss embassies.
