Former Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Cary Lake won the Republican vice presidential election during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), C-Span reported on March 4.
Lake led a list of 28 candidates with 20% of the vote, ahead of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis with 14% of the vote and former UN Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, who announced her candidacy for the presidency. of the US last month, according to the poll Haley won a whopping 10% of the vote supporting his vice presidency. Only 3% of those surveyed wanted to see her as president.
Another declared presidential candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, drew 6% support, as did former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. 5% was won by South Dakota Governor Christy Noem. The remaining candidates fell short of the 4% threshold, including former Vice President Mike Pence, who garnered 1% of the vote.
Lake delivered a speech at the Ronald Reagan Dinner at CPAC over the weekend. He also continues to challenge the results of Arizona’s November gubernatorial election in court.
Note that Arizona election officials conceded in a trial court hearing that the problems with the voting machines could not have arisen on Election Day by accident, someone deliberately reconfigured them, depriving tens of thousands of people from the right to vote. At the same time, the judge refused to grant the demand and called a new election.
Remember that Cary Lake was a popular TV host in Arizona for a local TV station. He left his job, he said, because he didn’t want to lie to people about COVID. According to her, the viewers, citizens of Arizona, convinced her to participate in the gubernatorial elections.
CPAC’s audience is not representative of the entire US population, but it reflects the mood of the “core” conservative electorate.
editorial comment
This poll shows why the governor of Florida might decide to run against Trump, after vowing not to two years ago.
Lake is already more popular than him as vice president and he is not leaving politics. She’s already the star of the America First movement, she can give pep talks, and she’s about the only one who has refused to accept rigged elections and is still fighting. If she gets any spots, she’ll surpass DeSantis in popularity by 2028.
Hot on his heels is Christina Karamo, the new leader of the Michigan Republican Party. She won the job as the America First nominee despite Trump’s endorsement of another nominee. Karamo’s only drawback is her refusal to challenge the results of the Michigan Secretary of State election, where she allegedly lost. However, she is another rising star from “America First” and she has nothing to do with Washington’s elite.
