The start of the trial on Meo’s appeal against the €829,000 fine imposed by Anacom last September for violations of universal payphone service compliance has been delayed by a strike by court officials. Judge Mariana Gómez Machado of the Competition, Regulation and Supervision Tribunal (TCRS) in Santarém announced that she would try to “fit” the process between May and June. The institution attributed Meo’s appeal to be urgent, since the facts that took place in 2015 expire in March 2024.
Meo’s agent, meanwhile, told the court that she filed an application invoking the new Electronic Communications Act of November 2022. She argues that the conduct imputed to the operator is no longer subject to punishment.
