Turkey’s 6.5 million buildings are in urgent need of renovation, and if it weren’t for the opposition’s actions, it might already have been completed, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on March 6, TRT reported.
The Turkish leader recalled that the attempt to implement urban transformation programs in Turkey ran into opposition protests. Now, the citizens themselves are massively asking to include their homes in the program due to fears regarding past earthquakes in the country.
“Listen, we told you ‘urban transformations’ 10 years ago, 15 years ago, if you had met our demand then, these buildings would be ready today. With 6.5 million buildings in our country, especially in Istanbul, in dire need of transformation, there is a very serious responsibility for delaying this process due to political calculations and personal ambitions.”Erdoğan said.
He added that all dangerous and unstable houses must be rebuilt as soon as possible to avoid a repeat of the tragedy that occurred in Turkey after a series of earthquakes in the south and southeast of the country.
Remember that as a result of the rampant disaster, thousands of houses were destroyed, tens of thousands received various damage. The emergency services continue to remove the rubble. The death toll from the quakes has already exceeded 46,000.
