Russia in the medium term needs to increase the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to 100 million tons per year, that is, three times more than what is currently produced, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said at a meeting on development of LNG production, held on March 7.
“The strategic and future objective of our gas exports is the development of LNG production, which in the medium term should reach at least 100 million tons per year. To date, according to the implemented projects, production is about 33 million tons. Taking into account the projects under construction, plants in Ust-Luga and Arctic LNG-2, Russia will reach the production of 66 million tons of LNG per year.— Novak described the current situation and immediate prospects.
The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the energy industry stated that Russia needs to provide an additional resource base to increase LNG production by another 34 million tons per year. For this, according to Novak, it is necessary to ensure the location of the production of the necessary equipment for the industry and establish a more effective interaction between the public and private sectors, including through the reduction of administrative barriers.
Remember that the economic war waged by the West against Russia has deprived the Russian gas industry of traditional European pipeline gas markets. This creates the need to redirect gas exports, including along maritime routes.
