The US and South Korean air forces conducted a joint exercise to practice taking off and landing from an emergency lane, the Yonhap news agency reported on March 7, citing unnamed sources.
The agency notes that the exercises came after Pyongyang said it was capable of launching a missile attack that could destroy the airfield.
The exercises were held in Changnyeong County, located 347 kilometers southeast of Seoul. According to the Korean Air Force, 10 aircraft participated in them. Among them were the C-130 and CN-235 transport planes of the South Korean Air Force and the US Air Force planes: the A-10 attack plane and the MC-10 transport plane. 130J.
The South Korean Air Force said such training for emergency flights and landings is important for conducting military air operations outside of special bases. Seoul and Washington will continue to develop their wartime and emergency operations capabilities, the agency said.
