The general championship of Northern Chukotka and the championship in memory of the honored worker of physical culture and sports Sergei Raityrgin began on March 7, reports the press service of the Chukotka Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
It should be noted that the first days of the competition will be organizational: these days the mandate commission is working, participants come from remote villages of the district. The first startups will begin only on March 9.
The department spoke briefly about northern history in general:
“The northern all-around is a national sport, a complex competition in various disciplines. The first national sports competitions in Russia took place in 1946. In the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, the northern all-around began to actively develop in the 80s. In 1983, the North Russian All-Around Championship was held in Anadyr, in which the Chukotka team took second place.
It is noted that now Chukotka pays great attention to Northern General Works – the regional Federation of Northern General Works in the district, athletes regularly participate in high-level field competitions.
