The opposition Left Party has demanded that the government freeze food prices, Sweden News reports March 8.
Food prices in Sweden have increased by 20% in a year and a half. At the same time, inflation rates are constantly increasing. So, in February 2023, price growth was the highest since 2015.
The leftist party calls for negotiations with the country’s main players in the food market: Ica, Coop and Axfood. The opposition demands the government to negotiate and conclude an agreement, according to which a regulation of the price policy will be introduced and the prices of a number of products will be completely frozen.
Representatives of the left-wing party point out that companies are making big profits and many Swedish families already have big holes in the budget and are forced to refuse some goods.
