Gaby Hagler and her husband Patrick live in Texas, USA, have one child each from a previous relationship and one child together. The idea of increasing the family always seemed right to them, until unexpectedly and without resorting to any treatment, in December 2021, the couple discovered that they had conceived more than expected. Gaby was expecting a quadruple.
Now the family, which has become nine people, has adopted a new dynamic to save costs and new methods to differentiate new members.
According to the parents of babies born on June 22 at the Texas Women’s Hospital, Adam, Bennett, Kobe and Dane consume 47 diapers, 32 milk bottles and 1.5 packs of tissues. In addition, everyone changes clothes three times a day.
As for the difficulty of deciding who is who, the couple said that the two twins, Bennett and Kobe, are so similar that they have to paint each one’s nails a different color to tell them apart. “Sometimes I get confused because Bennett and Kobe are very similar and I have to paint one of my toenails to tell them apart.” Sunadding that “Bennett has a green nail and Kobe has a white nail.”
“We have colors for Adam and Dane, but as they get older it becomes easier to tell them apart,” Gaby concluded.
According to the mother of the children, “it was a complete shock” when they found out that they would have quadruplets: “We have already bought a big car ready for our family of six and were very shocked when we realized that with four we would become a family of nine.”
“With four babies, everything was completely rebuilt,” explained Patrick, the babies’ father. “We’re trying to fit in with our lives with kids, but it’s been an honor and a joy so far,” he added.
When the couple found out they were having quadruplets, a friend of the couple created a page on GoFundMe to help them raise money for a new, bigger van for the family. “We were very grateful to the people who donated and now we have been able to buy a van,” said Gaby.
Regarding the completely unexpected additional expenses, the mother of the babies said that “it was a big adjustment, as they had to resort to money that they were saving for retirement.”
