Four bears woke up after hibernation in the Rostov-on-Don zoo, the institution’s press service reports on March 10.
The Himalayan bears Masha, Ursula and Andrey hibernated in November 2022. The brown bear Andryusha fell asleep a little later, in December.
In order for the animals to sleep well, they prepared by increasing the diet before hibernation. This is necessary for fat storage. In addition, fragrant hay was laid in the dens, and noisy work next to the aviary was stopped.
Now the bears are awake. According to the zoo, they “feeling great and full of energy to “receive guests”.
It should be noted that the Rostov Zoo is one of the largest in Russia. Its surface exceeds 56 hectares. The zoo contains about 5 thousand animals belonging to 400 species. Of these, 105 species are listed in the IUCN Red Book, 33 species – in the Russian Red Book.
