The subsidy plan for the payment of electricity and gas for the population and companies was approved by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the authorities of the federal states on November 2 at a meeting in Berlin, according to the German newspaper Die Zeit.
According to the decision, gas bills in December 2022 for all consumers will be paid by the federal center. In addition, as of March 2023, the price of gas will be limited to 12 cents per kilowatt-hour for 80% of the volume consumed in the previous period.
A similar subsidy will be granted to electricity consumers from January 2023. In this case, the maximum price per kilowatt-hour will be 40 cents.
Recall that previously the opposition CDU party criticized the German government coalition for being slow in providing help to overcome the energy crisis. Also, the Christian Democrats were not pleased with plans to cap gasoline prices only starting in March 2023.
“Citizens are now paying hesitant traffic lights with a significant loss of wealth, and many businesses are facing bankruptcy.”– said the executive director of the CDU / CSU faction in the Bundestag Torsten Frei.
