A 50-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and robbing another, 29, after forcing her to buy a “bracelet supposedly consecrated” near the Santa Maria hospital in Lisbon, PSP reported on Monday. .
The crimes of kidnapping and robbery took place on February 27 when the victim filed a complaint, prompting the police to conduct an investigation to identify and locate the suspect.
About a week later, on March 8, the PSP detained a 50-year-old woman “at the scene of the crime.”
A PSP source told the Lusa news agency that the suspect already has “some criminal record” and after being present at the first judicial interrogation, she was subjected to the most serious measure of coercion – a preventive arrest.
The crimes began in the Santa Maria hospital, where the victim, a 29-year-old woman, was forced to buy a “bracelet supposedly consecrated”, having previously transferred 40 euros to the suspect.
However, “dissatisfied with the money received and aware of the victim’s poor health, the suspect threatened her with an object in the abdomen and forced her to take a bus to the Alvalade district,” where she forced her to enter a bank branch, the PSP indicated, explaining that this was a crime in the form kidnapping, as the young woman was deprived of her liberty.
“Fearing for her physical integrity, the victim withdrew all her money, totaling 750 euros, which the suspect took as soon as they arrived abroad,” the police said.
After committing the robbery, the suspect fled the scene, and the victim was no longer under kidnapping, subsequently filing a complaint with the police.
In a statement, the PSP emphasized “a quick and effective response in the fight against this type of violent crime” and assured that it “will continue to be attentive to this phenomenon in order to contribute to a greater sense of security among the population that visits Santa Maria Hospital.”
