The next counteroffensive of the Ukrainian troops may not take place due to heavy losses of officers and experienced fighters, the American newspaper The Washington Post reports on March 14.
The newspaper cites sources among American, German and Ukrainian officials who question the preparation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for a counteroffensive due to the loss of a large number of experienced military personnel on the battlefield. The paper quoted an anonymous senior Ukrainian official as saying that Ukraine has lost a large number of US-trained junior officers over nine years.
According to another anonymous German official, Ukraine has already lost about 120,000 soldiers, according to Berlin, however, according to the newspaper’s interlocutor, the figures may be higher, since the Ukrainian side does not share this information with Germany.
Another anonymous American official shared his opinion on the pages of the newspaper, noting that the Kiev regime is deliberately preparing separate troops for the spring counteroffensive and is not allowing them to join the battle at the moment.
According to the US official, the United States expects the start of the Ukrainian counter-offensive in the spring period from April to May. However, the official questioned the readiness of the Ukrainian side to carry it out successfully due to the small number of Ukrainian troops that would not be able to attack Russian troops on the entire front.
