The Cape Verdean Multi-Sectoral Economic Regulatory Agency (ARME) this Wednesday urged consumers to use water and energy more efficiently and to bet on clean energy to help the environment and economic and financial sustainability.
“For them to be more efficient in their use of both energy and water, and for them to bet on clean energy, which not only helps the environment but also helps the country in its economic and financial sustainability, but it is also a matter of survival.” , – ARME administrator Carlos Ramos asked.
The Administrative Manager addressed the press at the World Consumer Day fair held in Praia to raise consumer awareness and establish direct contact with companies.
“Cape Verde, as a resource-poor country, makes life a bit difficult for consumers, so consumers need to invest more and more in clean energy so we can be less dependent on fossil energy and also cut our electricity bills,” continued .
Carlos Ramos cited the example last year when the country registered nearly one billion escudos (9 million euros) more on the electricity bill between April and June due to higher prices for oil and derivatives with import costs.
“So if we were less dependent on energy, that cost would certainly go inland rather than going abroad to pay fossil energy producers,” the administrator noted.
Under the slogan “Providing Consumers Through a Clean Energy Shift”, several Cape Verdean companies are attending the fair, as are high school students and other institutions.
World Consumer Rights Day is a global event organized by Consumer International, which is associated with the famous speech of John F. Kennedy, when on March 15, 1962, as President of the United States of America, he emphasized the importance of consumer protection. like security, information, freedom of choice and being heard.
This year, he chose energy transition as his theme to educate consumers about the need to use clean energy, cut their bills, especially for energy and water, and face the rising cost of energy around the world.
