The 94-year-old man who hit his 85-year-old ex-wife on the head with a bench on Sunday morning later set fire to the house she lived in in Pareda, Cascais.
The Comarca de Cascais criminal judge who interrogated him found him “severely charged with the crime of qualified murder in the form of attempt and the crime of unfinished arson.”
According to information posted online by the prosecutor’s office, the victim was lying on the floor when the aggressor entered the room, who, despite being separated from his ex-wife, had the key to her house. The 85-year-old woman was then hit on the head with a wooden bench and she lost consciousness. The 94-year-old man then started the fire with alcohol and lighters, setting off a blaze that only Parede firefighters managed to put out. He escaped from the house through a window and later turned himself in at the PSP police station in Pareda, where he took over the crimes.
