The nationwide strike of civil servants, starting at 00:00 Friday, will strike its first blows this Thursday late in the day, especially in hospitals and garbage collection services, according to the Common Front.
“The strike starts at the start of today’s night shift, the medical and garbage workers are the first to strike, and mass unification is expected both tonight and tomorrow afternoon,” said the coordinator of the General Front of Public Administration Trade Unions, Sebastian Santana, in Luso.
The trade union structure of the VKTP hopes for “massive support” for the strike from civil servants, who “tomorrow [sexta-feira] will be more visible,” he added.
“We expect many welfare services, citizen shops, greenhouses, finance to be closed, we expect a big impact on these services, including in the field of health, with the closure of many external consultations, as well as in schools,” he said. . , Sebastian Santana.
Among the reasons for the strike called by the Common Front are the demand for an immediate increase in wages, the establishment of maximum price limits for goods and services, the evaluation of careers, and the strengthening of public services.
The first assessment of the strike is to be made tonight by the Common Front with statements from trade unionists who will be at the municipal shipyard in Amadora and close to midnight at the entrance to the São José Hospital in Lisbon.
In the education sector, the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) announced this week that teachers and educators will take part in a civil service strike, with non-teaching workers being subject to the Common Front’s advance notice.
The day after the strike, on Saturday, a national demonstration, promoted by the CGTP, is planned in Lisbon for a general increase in wages and pensions due to the rising cost of living.
