The proposed military programming law provides for an investment of five billion by 2034.

The Defense Programming Law proposal, approved this Thursday by the Council of Ministers, provides for a global investment amount of 5,570 million euros until 2034, representing a “17.5% increase over the current law.”

A statement from the Department of National Defense, led by Helena Carreiras, summarizes a proposal for the Defense Programming Act (LPM), approved by the Council of Ministers, which sets public investment in facilities and equipment for the armed forces between 2023 and 2034.

“The global investment amount is 5,570 million euros, which represents an increase of 17.5% compared to the current law (plus 830 million euros),” the note says, indicating that this is “the highest LPM ever “.

With regard to “repairing the gap in maintenance, support and modernization of existing facilities”, the proposal includes an investment of 2,418 million euros, which corresponds to 43% of the total amount envisaged in the government document. This item has, according to the ministry, “an investment increase of more than 96% compared to what is envisaged in the current LPM.”

The government approved this Thursday in the Council of Ministers a proposal for the Military Programming Law for the period 2023 to 2034, a diploma establishing public investment in the maintenance, equipment and armament of the Armed Forces.
