The honorary Bishop of the Angolan Diocese of Uige, Francisco da Mata Mourisca, died today at the age of 95 in Luanda, “a victim of illness,” Joaquim Nhanganga Tjombe, Bishop of the province, said in a statement.
“With deep pain and horror, we received a message from the D. Alexandre hospital in Luanda on behalf of its director, Dr. Masseki, who announces the departure of D. Francisco da Mata Mourisca (…), at 18:45 (17:45 Lisbon time ), a victim of the disease,” the statement said, without giving further details.
Addressing the note “to the priests, men and women, religious and faithful of the Diocese of Uige, CEAST (Bishops’ Conference of Angola and Sao Tome) and all people of good will”, the current Bishop emphasized that Francisco da Mata Murisca “will remain forever a living gospel”, adding that “further details will be communicated in due course.”
