The controversy arose after a 10-year-old was forced to take off his Benfica jersey to watch a game with Famalican fans on Saturday (the Eagles won 1-0). This Sunday, even the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Joao Paulo Correia, reacted by declaring “a victim of ruthless intolerance in the football stadium by representatives of the game’s promoter.”
“She was also humiliated in being semi-naked so she could continue watching the game,” the minister wrote on social media, adding: “This incident is the most outcry. The persons involved must explain what happened.”
The child’s father, who couldn’t believe it when his son was forced to take off his Benfica shirt in tears to enter the stadium, admitted he contacted a lawyer to go to the justice ministry on Monday to explain what had happened.
The child was on the bench intended for the Famalican fans and was forced to remove the props from the opposing team, as required by the regulations.
