Forestry enterprises of the Vologda Oblast collected more than 46 tons of cones during the autumn-winter period to replenish the seed fund and renew the region’s forests, the press service of the Department of the Forestry Complex reported on March 19. region.
“In the last autumn-winter season, more than 46 tons of cones were already harvested, more than 40 tons were already processed, the seed yield was 349 kilograms”indicated in the message.
In total, over the past season, the report says, loggers plan to harvest 656 kilograms of seeds from softwoods, firs and pines.
After manual harvesting of trees with the help of ladders and a lift, the boom of which allows you to rise to a height of up to 7 meters, the harvested material is sent to the cone-drying complex of the Vologda Seed and Breeding Center – a branch of the forestry SAU “Vologdaleskhoz”.
It should be noted that the total stock of forest plant seeds will guarantee forestry work in the region for the next six years.
