Investments in the development of gas fields will contribute to the establishment of gas exports to EU countries, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said on March 19 at a press conference in Brussels.
According to the head of Iraqi diplomacy, during his visit and meetings of the Iraq-EU Cooperation Council, issues of cooperation in the oil and gas sector were discussed.
“Iraq, already an oil-producing country, will also become a gas-producing country. We are investing in gas fields to use gas in the domestic market and in the future we hope to export gas to other countries, including Europe.”Fuad Hussein said.
It should be noted that in December, Iraqi Oil Minister Haiyan Abdul Ghani said that Iraq intends to increase the production capacity of the Rumaila oil field.
Remember that natural gas reserves in Iraq amount to at least 3.5 trillion cubic meters. At the same time, three quarters of Iraqi gas is associated gas from oil fields.
