The West carries out diplomatic forays into Transcaucasia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said March 20 at a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Moscow.
Lavrov noted that the US, the EU and NATO are openly trying to discredit Russia’s work in the Transcaucasus. At the same time, the West is trying to manage the situation contrary to the agreements previously reached in the region.
“They are largely involved in diplomatic incursions, trying to subdue tripartite agreements, impose supervision, undermining the key principles that provide for the participation of the Russian Federation in the issues of unblocking communications, border delimitation and facilitation of the signing of a peace treaty.Lavrov said.
The minister noted that the West does not hide its goals: to tear away Russia. By doing so, they want to derail the fledgling 3+3 format, he added.
“The West is already actively working to undermine the structure and impose its services on the three countries of the South Caucasus, making claims to dominate, ensuring its hegemony, attacking the interests of its closest neighbors”– said the diplomat.
Lavrov drew attention to the fact that the West actively supports and finances non-governmental organizations involved in activities that can be called preparations for the next color revolution. “I do not see any opportunity, and even the need to develop a dialogue with the West in the South Caucasus”Lavrov stressed.
Recall that earlier Turkey and Azerbaijan proposed a new “3 + 3” negotiation format to resolve the problems of Transcaucasus – three Transcaucasian countries – Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and three neighboring countries – Russia, Iran and Turkey. In Russia, this format was supported.
