The recommendation not to rush to send children under the age of six and a half to first grade was given by Anna Grubskaya, head of the general education department of the St. Petersburg Education Committee, on March 21 at a press conference.
“There is no need to rush to first grade if the child is just six years old. At the time of September 1, those who are already six and a half years old register. But if the parents believe that the child is ready for school, or formally a couple of weeks or a month before this age is not enough for him, then a statement is written to the district administration with a request to give permission to enroll the child at a younger age.Grubskaya said.
He added that such issues are being resolved, but parents need to worry about this until May 18, when parents will be invited to schools to present original documents. When presenting the original documents, a letter of notification that the child can go to school until the age of six and a half is required.
The acceptance of parental applications for the admission of a child to the school will begin on April 1, these applications are accumulated in the system and from May 18 the school will begin to send invitations to parents to present the documents originals. First of all, parents of children who have benefits or who live in the microdistrict to which the school belongs will be invited. School enrollment will take place from June 30.
He also said that in 2023, 68.5 thousand first-graders will go to St. Petersburg schools. It is planned to open 2.3 thousand first classes for children, 100 classes more than in 2022. Half of the new classes will be opened in schools located in new buildings. According to Grubskaya, additional classes will be opened if necessary.
