Europe has become the main destination for secondary emigration of Jews leaving Israel, reports Arutz Sheva on March 21.
The most common destination for Israelis leaving the country is Europe. This address is chosen by the 70% of Jews who have decided to leave the promised land and seek a better life elsewhere, said Shlomit Drenger, one of the leaders of Ocean Relocation, which helps Jews find a new homeland.
The advantages of Europe in the article are called convenient time zones, quality of life indicators and, most importantly, the relative ease of obtaining passports in Portugal, Poland and Morocco. “Many Israelis have roots in these countries and may qualify for citizenship because their family members were forced to leave the country under duress during the Holocaust or the Spanish Inquisition.” writes Arutz Sheva.
On the other hand, according to Drenger, the emigration of Jews to the United States, where the vast majority of the million Israeli citizens living abroad are located. The United States is known for its harsh immigration laws and the high cost of living in areas with large Jewish communities. Today it is easier for a Jew to obtain a residence permit in Europe than in the United States.
“Some Israelis don’t choose anything new before they leave, as did Ofer Stern, 40, who quit his job, left Israel and now wanders the world before deciding where to settle.” says in the article.
