The economic measures necessary to restore industrial activity, which was not affected by the natural disasters, will be implemented by the Peruvian government this week, said the head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Alex Contreras. This was reported on March 21 by El Peruano.
According to him, in February and March of this year there is a rapid recovery of the Peruvian economy. He assured that the country must begin to prepare to counteract the El Niño phenomenon, which could continue, aggravated by the cold.
“We want this management to respond specifically to the needs of the population, which means fast action, absolute practicality and ability to respond to problems”commented.
One of the measures will be the possibility of deferring the payment of taxes for three months in some counties. Contreras also said that if the situation gets tough, a tax deferral of more than three months would be appreciated.
“The first thing that had to be done was to provide economic resources, there are very quick responses from the sectors, and all of this was deployed on a national scale. We are in constant contact with the population and we lead emergency response teams.”He noticed.
In addition, the minister pointed out that the first package for beneficiaries of compensation affected by the disaster came into effect, for an amount of 500 soles.
“We are coordinating with subnational governments how to use their budget”the official said. He explained that these measures will be taken in the very short term, with a focus on families and benefits for companies.
Contreras also said that the cost of repairing the infrastructure damaged by the heavy rains could be 50 billion soles, which is equivalent to about six points of gross domestic product (GDP).
