The European Union (EU) has provided Ukraine with another €1.5 billion tranche of the macro-financial assistance (AMF+) package approved for 2023 following a positive assessment from Brussels, as announced on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the European Commission, 1.5 billion euros was allocated following a positive assessment by Brussels of Kyiv, namely in terms of progress in ensuring the transparent and efficient use of funds and stabilizing the financial system, among other criteria.
The money from the AMF+ package is intended to help Ukraine continue to pay salaries and pensions, keep basic public services such as hospitals, schools, and IDP housing running, ensure macroeconomic stability, and rebuild critical infrastructure damaged by Russian aggression, such as energy, water systems and transport networks.
The first loan of three billion euros was disbursed in January, and Brussels will continue to channel funds throughout 2023.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, the EU has already sent Ukraine 11.7 billion euros in macro-financial assistance programs provided in the form of loans on very favorable terms.
