The responsible and rational use of water, even in those parts of the world where there are no problems with its scarcity, should be mandatory for everyone, Serbian member and president of the Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Presidency Zeljka Cvijanovic said in New York on a UN conference, March 22, Republika Srpska Radio and Television.
Speaking of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cvijanovic emphasized that hydropower represents a great opportunity for development and is one of the strategic and still underutilized sectors of the economy.
“Consequently, our development plans for the future are largely based on investments in the energy sector, whose importance in today’s global framework is greater than ever in the past. Unfortunately, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, myopic political interests too often take precedence over basic economic logic., — said Tsviyanovich, speaking at the conference on the mid-term review of the implementation of the goals of the action “Water for Sustainable Development” for the period 2018-2028. years.
He stated that due to this, many important hydroelectric projects that the Republika Srpska intends to implement together with Serbia are being subjected to senseless obstacles and blockades by certain political figures.
“However, this does not diminish our determination to maximize the use of hydroelectric potential, which is our great development opportunity and comparative advantage, for the common good.”– explained Tsviyanovich.
At this meeting, he pointed out that the limitation of natural resources and their accelerated consumption is one of the biggest problems today.
