The statement by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense that the Armenian side, accompanied by Russian peacekeepers, is allegedly transporting troops and ammunition along the Stepanakert-Gaibalishen-Lisagor forest road is false and disinformation, according to a statement by the Ministry of the Interior of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), published on March 22.
“In fact, only civilians and humanitarian cargo between the settlements of Artsakh are transported on this highway, accompanied by peacekeeping forces.”– said the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic.
As explained in the department, the difficult geographical relief of this mountain road forces the use of large and tall vehicles to travel through it. The Azerbaijani side is trying to present these vehicles as military vehicles.
“Russian peacekeepers fulfilled their role, enshrined in the Trilateral Declaration of November 9, 2020. Taking into account the sabotage attack against Artsakh police officers on March 5 and the additional security risks that arose, the Russian side guaranteed the safe movement of civilians. and goods”says the statement.
Recall that transport communication between the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh and some villages in the Shusha region has been interrupted since December 12, 2022 after Azerbaijan blocked the Stepanakert-Goris interstate highway (Lachin corridor).
