The implementation of the section of the Windsor Framework Agreement, entitled “Stormont Brake” was approved by the House of Commons of the British Parliament, on March 22, writes The Journal.
486 deputies voted in favor of the adoption of the rules, 29 against. Former British Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, as well as members of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), who consider the proposed measures insufficient, vowed to vote against it.
DUP leader Geoffrey Donaldson said that despite Parliament’s approval of the measures, his party will continue to block the work of the Northern Ireland Assembly, preventing Home Rule from forming an executive branch.
“I have repeatedly pointed out that fundamental problems remain, despite the progress that has been made. Therefore, at this stage, there is no stable foundation that would allow us to restore Stormont.”Donaldson emphasized.
