Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi shared his views on the DPRK with South Korean Unification Minister Kwon Yong Se on March 23, NHK TV reports.
The ministerial meeting took place during the first such visit by a South Korean politician to Japan in nearly two decades. It was carried out as part of the authorities’ policy aimed at improving relations between South Korea and Japan, which had cooled significantly in previous years.
The South Korean politician stressed that the DPRK’s nuclear program and Seoul’s questions about human rights concern not only his country, but also the rest of the world. In this sense, he considers it necessary to deepen ties with the neighboring country.
As part of the meeting, Hayashi stressed that South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol’s visit a week earlier was a great success and expressed deep respect for his work to improve relations between the countries.
Kwon added that the governments of both countries should make more efforts to improve bilateral relations. Hayashi thanked his South Korean counterpart for visiting him shortly after his president’s trip.
