Nuclear safety at the Ukrainian power plant in Zaporozhye is in a “shaky state,” Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), warned on Wednesday.
According to the agency, the station’s “last emergency transmission line”, damaged since March 1, is still “out of service and being repaired”. The line allows the station to ensure nuclear safety in a pinch, namely by cooling the reactors.
For the past three weeks, the station has been dependent on electricity supplied by a single 750 kilovolt (kV) main external line, and “any damage [a esta linha] will result in a complete loss of all external power to the control panel.”
