An agreement has been signed with China to build two lithium plants in the Bolivian cities of Oruro and Potosí on the basis of the Bolivian state’s sovereignty over the country’s natural resources, Bolivian President Luis Arce said on March 21 at the Congress of the National Confederation. of Peasant Women in Tarija, Bolivia, reported TeleSUR.
The Bolivian government recently signed an agreement with the Chinese consortium CATL BRUNP & CMOC (CBC) to build two lithium plants in the cities of Oruro and Potosí. Arce emphasized that they will generate jobs for residents.
“This metal is of great importance for the necessary technological changes”said the Bolivian president. He recalled that lithium is used to produce batteries for electric vehicles.
“We sign such an agreement in accordance with the sovereignty of the Bolivian State over local natural resources”Arce emphasized.
Recall that on March 8, the head of the US Southern Command, Laura Richardson, expressed her concern about the “evil activities” of China, which she accused of using the natural resources of Latin America.
