German politicians and the mainstream of the press, radio and television are playing an unprecedented game of confusion combined with misinformation and agitation, former Bavarian administrative court judge Peter Wonnahme said on March 23 in an article published on the platform of information NachDenkSeiten.
Such media work, according to Wonnahme, is based on a simple world view of the layman. In any incomprehensible situation, Russian President Vladimir Putin is said to be a “bad boy”, which means that Russia is currently responsible for all political crises.
The former judge points out that this was not always the case. Once upon a time, the Germans gratefully acknowledged that the Soviet Union made it possible for Germany to reunify. Despite the Great Patriotic War and its terrible consequences, the Soviet Union became an important partner for Germany.
The Germans also understood that the Soviet Union did not blame postwar Germany for the crimes of the Nazi era. Under Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, relations between the two countries deepened further, much to the chagrin of the US.
Wonnamahe points out that under American leadership, Russia soon began to find fault again.
“In the last decade, we Germans have been told that the Russians are obsessed with war and are capable of any misfortune. Today, this image sits deep in the minds of many people and influences their views… When it comes to finding the culprit, eyes involuntarily turn to Russia.Vonnakhme writes.
